The Straw Bale Grand Opening

On September 11th, Oxfordshire Recovery College celebrated the Grand Opening of our new home in the Straw Bale Building.

Lots of our students, tutors, friends and supporters enjoyed a buffet party in the sunshine, and we were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Oxford and our local MP Anneliese Dodds, as well as representatives from the Universities and our partner organisations. Three of our students spoke very eloquently and movingly about what the Recovery College means to them. The the Lord Mayor then declared the building open by cutting a cake created to look like the Straw Bale.

The Straw Bale is looking great – it’s been freshly painted, has a new ramp for wheelchair access, and we now have a cosy kitchen corner with lending library. We’re very excited about the term ahead which starts Monday 16th September with a drop-in craft workshop and drop-in yoga workshop on Tuesday 17th. We have courses on a range of subjects around mental health and well-being running up until Christmas.

We also have a new video to share about our work. It was beautifully filmed at Elder Stubbs and features stories from our students  – if you have 4 minutes take a look at the video below (you won’t regret it!)
